Protect Your Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) Resources from Data Loss and Downtime

Arpio is the premier disaster recovery solution on the market for applications that run on Amazon Web Services. Unlike conventional backup and disaster recovery systems that concentrate on safeguarding just your data, Arpio safeguards your complete environment, making rapid recovery from any disruption easy to accomplish.

For applications that use Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), Arpio safeguards and restores not just your data, but also your DB instances’ configuration, DB parameter groups, DB option groups, and DB subnet groups. Arpio additionally protects and recovers the underlying resources, such security groups, network configuration, and IAM entities, on which your RDS databases rely.

The Only DR Tool That Natively Understands AWS Workloads

Although there are many backup and disaster recovery tools available, almost all of them were created for the pre-cloud era. They are excellent at securing file systems, database servers, and virtual machines, but they treat all of these resources equally whether they are hosted locally or in the cloud.

In contrast, Arpio was created with the specific requirements of cloud workloads in mind. By utilizing the native data protection features in AWS, Arpio can protect and recover those same data stores. But it also sees beyond your data to make your entire cloud infrastructure disaster-proof. Your data, infrastructure, and configuration can be secured against cyberattacks like ransomware, human error, and cloud disruptions with just one straightforward tool.

With Arpio, your RDS-based workloads can be secured and restored in minutes during any outage thanks to our native protection for Amazon Relational Database Service.

Achieve Point In Time Backup and Real-time Data Replication

Arpio’s data protections for Amazon RDS enhance and extend the native capabilities built into the AWS platform.  When protecting your RDS database instances, you have the option of using cost-effective database snapshots or high-performance data replication to a read replica in your recovery region.  In both cases, Arpio retains historical snapshots of replicated data, enabling you to recover your RDS database to any point in time prior to a disaster occurring.

Automate Complete Recovery with One Simple Platform

Great backup isn’t enough – you also need great recovery.  With Arpio, your entire RDS resource recovery is fully automate. Arpio additionally restores the adjacent infrastructure that your RDS databases rely upon. In the end, Arpio reconstructs your entire environment configuration in a matter of minutes using the most recent data and configuration, allowing your business to swiftly resume normal operations.

Arpio takes RDS database recovery even further by re-creating the network identity of the original database from the primary environment.  These DNS aliases, created through Arpio’s automation, map the original database hostname to the recovered database hostname.  This enables clients that connect to the database using the hostnames that Amazon provided in your primary environment to automatically connect to the recovered database instance.  Your running applications do not need to be aware that they’ve moved into your recovery environment.

Failback is an Arpio feature that allows you to quickly and easily copy the most recent data from your AWS Recovery Environment back to your Primary Environment

Easily Failback Your Data After Outages

After an outage, you’ll probably wish to return your workloads to their original environment.  With Arpio, the complete failback process for your RDS databases – and the other data services in your environment – is completely automated.

During failback, Arpio restores your recovery environment data to your original infrastructure in your primary environment.  By reusing your original infrastructure during the failback process, your existing business process, CI/CD automation, and infrastructure-as-code can pick up exactly where they left off before the outage.

How to Protect Your RDS Database Instances in Just 3 Steps

Curious about how to get started protecting your RDS resources? Set up is easy:

1. Connect Arpio to your primary and recovery environments

Arpio connects securely to your primary and recovery environments in accordance with AWS best practices for working with 3rd parties. When setting up an application, Arpio will generate CloudFormation templates for you to install in your environment to set up an IAM role-based trust relationship.

2. Define Your Recovery Point Objective

Arpio can support a recovery point of mere seconds up to 24 hours, depending on your business needs. Tell Arpio what your recovery point objective is for this application, and our software will do the rest.

3. Select the Resources for Arpio to Replicate

Once connected, Arpio will automatically discover all of the resources in your environment and their dependencies. Just check the boxes by the RDS database instances you care about, as well as the other services that support the workload, like load balancers and EC2 instances, and Arpio will discover the rest.

Once you hit save, Arpio will begin its first back up and start to replicate resources to your recovery environment right away. That’s all you need to do to get set up!
