That’s where Arpio comes in.
Seamless Protection Built on an AWS Foundation
Arpio leverages AWS native tooling—including AWS Backup, AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery, and other native AWS service backup capabilities—to provide comprehensive Disaster Recovery and Ransomware Recovery for your AWS workloads. It eliminates the undifferentiated heavy lifting of orchestrating these services, offering push-button recovery.
Arpio automatically discovers and protects all resources required to run your AWS workloads, enabling complete recovery as a fully functional, production-ready stack in any AWS Region or account—ready to handle customer traffic immediately.
Why Native Tools Aren’t Enough by Themselves
Recovering quickly and completely from a disaster or ransomware event requires more than just copying data. Customers also need:
- Networking, IAM, and infrastructure brought back online in the right order
- Cross-Region and cross-account protection to meet compliance and security needs
- Updated endpoints, resource IDs (such as ARNs), and configuration changes for recovered workloads
- Repeatable, easy testing
- Push-button recovery that minimizes manual toil
Native AWS tools don’t cover all these areas out of the box.
Beyond Backup: True Workload Recovery
Figure 1. AWS tools on the left provide a powerful foundation for full recovery on the right

Figure 1 demonstrates how Arpio leverages AWS’s foundational tools (left) as powerful building blocks for disaster recovery, as well as the additional requirements for complete workload restoration (right). Full recovery encompasses:
- Compute resources: Amazon EC2, AWS Lambda, Amazon ECS, and Amazon EKS
- Complex networking: Multi-VPC and cross-account network configurations
- Infrastructure components: All supporting AWS services and dependencies
- IAM principals: Roles, policies, and permissions required for operation
- Configuration translation: Resource and region references all need to be updated
Arpio seamlessly integrates with AWS Backup and AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery while extending their capabilities to protect over 115 supported AWS resource types—ensuring your entire workload architecture is recoverable, not just individual components.
Intelligent Configuration Translation
Achieving full recovery also requires configuration translation. For instance, your recovered application must be updated with new AWS Relational Database Service endpoints, and recovered IAM policies need to reference the ARNs of your newly recovered AWS resources. Arpio automates this crucial configuration ‘translation,’ eliminating manual effort.
Recovery cross-Region and cross-account
AWS Backup supports simultaneous cross-Region and cross-account backup for most AWS resources, and AWS DRS supports real-time replication of Amazon EC2 instances cross-Region and cross-account. Arpio builds on these capabilities, not only supporting all of those operations, but also providing real-time cross-Region and cross-account replication for Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Aurora. Figure 2 illustrates the orchestration of real-time replication that Aprio does for you, so you do not need to build it yourself. Cross-account recovery is especially critical for safe ransomware recovery, as it prevents compromised credentials from putting your recovery in jeopardy.
